Head of Business Segment driving strategic execution within Testing segment at a leading life sciences company. Overseeing commercial initiatives and operational excellence in Glasgow or Nottingham.
Responsibilities
Co-develop and drive the execution of the Testing segment’s strategic and operational priorities in alignment with Business Unit’s objectives, steering globally the segment performance across commercial, operational, and customer metrics to maximize its contribution (revenue, margin, service KPIs, and cost efficiency)
Guide the evolution of segment-specific products and offerings to deliver segment relevant innovation and enhancements that accelerate customers’ development and enable faster time-to-success, while driving market adoption
Strengthen the segment’s global market presence by driving focused commercial initiatives and partnering with Central Sales to apply segment-specific technical expertise that grows pipeline, enhances win rates, and expands market penetration
Elevate operational excellence across the segment by driving adherence to quality, cost, delivery reliability, and process standards
Expand and optimize the segment’s operational capacity globally and its footprint by ensuring effective utilization of existing capabilities and delivering approved footprint expansion priorities in line with business needs and agreed milestones
Champion effective cross functional collaboration in the matrix to ensure consistent synergies across the Business Unit and seamless execution
Requirements
A Master’s degree in Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering) forms the academic foundation for this role; a PHD or MBA is considered a plus
More than 7 years of relevant experience in commercial, product, operational, or testing service environments within Life Science or adjacent technology sectors, ideally combined with exposure to business ownership and multi‑functional leadership
Strategic thinking and strong business judgment to balance commercial, operational, and technical priorities in a P&L‑driven context
Deep understanding of customer workflows, segment‑specific applications, market dynamics, and enabling technologies, complemented by a hunter mindset to spot growth opportunities and strengthen segment positioning
A demonstrated ability to steer performance across revenue, margin, service KPIs, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction, supported by data‑driven decision‑making and timely corrective action
A strong track record in driving segment‑relevant innovation and lifecycle management, shaping product or service evolution based on customer insights and market needs
Experience improving operational performance, optimizing capacity utilization, and supporting footprint expansion while safeguarding quality, cost, delivery, and process standards
Excellent communication, influencing, and matrix‑collaboration skills to align all relevant functions around shared segment priorities
Business-fluent English is mandatory
