About the role

  • Manager, Payroll responsible for end-to-end payroll operations for assigned legal entities in India. Collaborating with global payroll teams and ensuring compliance with Indian payroll regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end payroll delivery for assigned India legal entities, including:
  • Monthly payroll processing
  • Bonuses, incentives, and off‑cycle payments
  • Arrears, recoveries, and employee final settlements
  • Ensure two‑day turnaround for employee final settlements, consistently meeting defined service expectations.
  • Perform payroll validation and sign‑off activities, including variance analysis, exception review, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to defined cut‑offs, approval matrices, SLAs, and quality standards.
  • Operate effectively within a globally integrated payroll ecosystem, working across:
  • Workday HCM / Payroll
  • External payroll vendor platforms
  • Upstream and downstream HR, Finance, and Tax integrations
  • Ensure data accuracy, controlled hand‑offs, and process discipline across tightly integrated systems.
  • Maintain alignment with global payroll governance, controls, and operating standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with Indian statutory requirements, including:
  • Income Tax Act – salary TDS, projections, year‑end true‑ups, Quarterly withholding tax return, Form 16, Form 24Q
  • Provident Fund (EPFO) – UAN lifecycle, ECR filings, exits, and contributions
  • ESIC, Professional Tax, Labour Welfare Fund, Statutory Bonus return and state‑specific regulations
  • Maintain strong awareness of regulatory changes, including annual Finance Acts and evolving Labour Code implications.
  • Support annual payroll tax cycles, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.
  • Act as an operational point of contact for statutory notices, audits, and inspections, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Hold primary accountability for assigned legal entities while supporting colleagues on a need basis during peak periods, absences, or complex cases.
  • Demonstrate strong team orientation and ownership mindset, contributing to collective outcomes rather than siloed delivery.
  • Quickly adopt and model S&P Global’s culture, payroll governance principles, and team norms.
  • Apply a strong risk and controls mindset to identify payroll risks, recurring issues, and control gaps.
  • Support internal and external audits through accurate, timely, and audit‑ready documentation.
  • Contribute to strengthening payroll controls, documentation standards, and process resilience.
  • Actively influence and guide team members and collaborate with peers to drive payroll simplification, automation, and standardisation.
  • Leverage analytics, reporting, Power BI, and advanced Excel to improve payroll visibility, efficiency, and decision‑making.
  • Support adoption of new‑age and AI‑enabled tools to reduce manual dependency and improve turnaround times.
  • Champion a continuous improvement mindset aligned to S&P Global’s global payroll strategy and transformation agenda.

Requirements

  • Required Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 8–12 years of progressive India payroll experience, with strong hands‑on operational ownership.
  • Deep working knowledge of Indian payroll laws and statutory compliance.
  • Experience working in a global payroll or shared services environment with integrated systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and payroll reporting.
  • Preferred Experience with Workday HCM / Payroll or similar HRIS platforms.
  • Exposure to statutory audits, tax assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Working knowledge of new Labour Codes and payroll impact.
  • Exposure to Power BI, analytics, automation, or AI‑based solutions.
