Leave of Absence Specialist managing employee leave programs in the U.S. and Canada for a medical device company. Analyzing leave requests and ensuring compliance with leave laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
Analyze and process leave of absence requests including FMLA, ADA, parental leave, personal leave, and other statutory and company-sponsored leaves
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws and regulations
Support global leave administration by collaborating with regional HR teams and understanding country-specific leave entitlements
Coordinate with internal benefits teams and external providers to align leave with short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), workers’ compensation, and paid family leave programs
Liaise with state agencies to facilitate claims and ensure proper documentation and benefit alignment
Educate employees on how state and company benefits interact during leave periods
Serve as a contact for Leave of Absence vendors and third-party administrators
Provide clear, compassionate guidance to employees and managers throughout the leave process
Facilitate return-to-work planning and ADA accommodations in partnership with HR and legal teams
Maintain accurate leave records in HRIS and case management systems
Generate reports and analyze leave trends to support HR strategy and compliance audits
Stay current on changes in leave laws and recommend policy updates as needed
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of experience in leave of absence administration
Strong knowledge of U.S. leave laws and benefit coordination
Experience working with state leave programs and coordinating benefits across multiple jurisdictions
Experience with HRIS Workday Platform
Strong Microsoft excel skills
Exposure to global leave practices and the ability to navigate international leave policies
Experience partnering with third-party LOA vendors and benefit providers
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
