Senior Health Physicist providing technical guidance in radiological designs and modifications at Savannah River Mission Completion in Aiken, SC. Responsible for radiation protection controls and compliance with standards.
Responsibilities
Provides technical guidance in support of company radiological designs and modifications
Calculates, analyzes, establishes, and incorporates proper radiological protection controls to prevent or minimize adverse effects to onsite personnel, the surrounding public, and the environment
Performs standard to complex assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards
Manages (tracking, estimating, etc.) and communicates changes to assigned schedule
Conducts peer review of tests and calculations for validity
Prepares briefings, presentations, technical papers, reports, and lectures for department management
Performs research and analyzes new equipment to develop cost-effective solutions and improvements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience
Thorough knowledge of health physics concepts, principles and techniques; general knowledge of related disciplines
Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards that provide guidance and requirements for radiation protection programs
Familiarity with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, HOTSPOT codes
Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics or related engineering or scientific discipline preferred for Senior Health Physicist II and III
