About the role
- Director of SEC Reporting overseeing external financial reporting at Zūm, a mission-driven, technology-focused startup transforming school transportation.
Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert on US GAAP and SEC regulations for the preparation and filing of SEC reports and demonstrate a clear understanding of related authoritative literature governing financial reporting for public companies
- Prepare technical accounting memos and analysis as needed
- Lead the coordination and preparation of quarterly and year-end external financial reports, including quarterly earnings releases, 10-Qs and 10-Ks and related press releases and earnings release scripts
- Prepare and/or review accounting entries and memos such as stock-based compensation, warrants, EPS, equity roll forward, cash flow statement
- Lead technical accounting research and policy development for complex transactions (e.g., non-standard equity transactions, revenue recognition, leases, debt financing, consolidations, business combinations) and ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready
- Assume ownership of SOX controls in External Reporting
- Assist Investor Relations team as needed with investor engagement activities, including preparation of investor materials on financial performance
- Provide technical accounting training to finance and accounting teams, ensuring a strong understanding of accounting principles and compliance requirements

- Drive collaborative and proactive relationships with key stakeholders, including key constituents throughout the Company including but not limited to the external and internal auditors, Legal & Compliance, IT, HR, FP&A, Supply Chain, and Engineering departments
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive technical accounting and reporting experience, including at least 4+ years of SEC Reporting Experience
- Strong background in SEC reporting, including authorship of public company filings (10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks) and registration statements (S-1)
- Pre-IPO/private company experience is essential, with demonstrated success in building scalable reporting and compliance processes
- Managed SEC and technical accounting matters in past roles, partnering with internal teams and third party experts
- Understanding of best practices and is capable of incorporating these solutions to build out first class processes
- Ability to develop and mentor a team to work collectively towards objectives and timely meet deadlines
- Experience with Wdesk(Workiva) SEC filing software and Inteligize for accounting research
- Proficient experience in using NetSuite
- Active CPA required
- Big 4 Accounting firm experience is a plus
