Safety Consultant providing safety and environmental health technical services for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Responsible for site inspections and safety training in specified regions.
Responsibilities
Provide safety and environmental health technical services and consultation to all subsets of the department within the Western half of the State.
Independently schedule, conduct and report annually on the results of site inspections of Juvenile Justice facilities and other department office locations.
Apply in-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, NFPA standards, N.C. State Building Codes and other applicable regulations to the job.
Support the Western and Piedmont areas as well as some Central locations in North Carolina.
Travel daily to various facilities/sites and report to a designated office at least 1 day/week.
Conduct investigations of serious accidents, incidents, and property loss and prepare analytical reports/recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
Develop and conduct safety and health-related training and policies.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with a major in safety engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or technology, occupational safety, or one of the physical sciences or an equivalent technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of three years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience investigating incidents and/or injuries involving acts of violence.
Experience developing and/or delivering safety-related training using Cornerstone LMS.
Experience writing reports with recommendations referencing federal and/or state safety codes/regulations.
Experience inspecting a site for health, safety and/or security concerns according to OSHA, NFPA and/or ACA regulations/standards.
Experience performing periodic surveillance and/or acting as a designated person for an AHERA management plan.
