About the role
- Mechanical Engineer designing and delivering solutions for ORBCOMM's communication products. Collaborating in a hybrid environment for effective project management and innovative design.
Responsibilities
- Designing, modelling, validating, and delivering robust mechanical designs
- Documenting and releasing complete drawing and BOM packages
- Designing and validating cable harnesses
- Developing and coordinating device level environmental testing with external labs.
- Conceptualizing and building manufacturing jigs and fixtures for high volume manufacturing.
- Interfacing with suppliers; sourcing and validating supplier parts.
- Managing small mechanical engineering related projects.
Requirements
- A mechanical engineer with a minimum 5-10 years of experience in a related field.
- 3D CAD modeling and drawing (SolidWorks is preferred).
- Electro-mechanical circuit board design experience, including shielding and antenna design
- Proven experience transitioning products into volume production
- Hands on mechanical aptitude (i.e. comfortable with hand/power tools).
- Manufacturing processes experience (e.g., Injection moulding, CNC machining, Sheetmetal, etc.).
- Product Lifecycle Management skills (e.g. Agile PLM)
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team environment as well as working independently.
- Manage working on multiple projects at any given time (ability to comfortably multi-task).
- Post-secondary education in progress in the area of Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline, (e.g., Mechatronics, Biomedical, Aerospace, etc.).
- Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
- Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.
