About the role

  • Technical Lead for recipe and menu management systems at Marley Spoon. Leading a small engineering team in developing innovative solutions using Ruby on Rails and React.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development on a Ruby on Rails application with a REACT/TypeScript UI and Postgres DB, staying hands-on and actively writing code.
  • Manage a team of 2-3 developers, helping them learn and grow.
  • Partner closely with product management to build an impactful roadmap.
  • Own the technical direction and delivery of the team including the responsible use of AI.
  • Be accountable for the quality, reliability, and security of your team’s systems, ensuring high production availability.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive team atmosphere focused on continuous improvement.
  • Partner with other teams to expand our offering to customers in alignment with our strategy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building enterprise-scale software systems in a company with 50+ engineers.
  • Prior experience setting technical direction and mentoring engineers. Management experience is a plus.
  • Strong backend development background in Ruby in a cloud environment.
  • Deep understanding of software engineering practices, processes, and problem-solving approaches.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in execution, delivering projects iteratively while managing dependencies, risks, and blockers.
  • Ability to introduce and evolve engineering processes in a pragmatic and low-friction way.
  • Excellent communication and empathy, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and technical peers.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to handle conflict, influence decisions, and build trust within the team.
  • Coaching-oriented mindset, with ability to support and develop engineers with different experience levels and motivations.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
