About the role

  • Electrical Engineer 2 responsible for designing electrical systems for U.S. Navy's nuclear aircraft carriers. Collaborating with various teams and becoming a subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Responsible for designing and managing the Regulating Valve Controllers and Gate Valve Actuator Controllers on Ford-class ships as well as providing assistance with the RC Door Actuators and Pressurizer Heater system.
  • Expected to become the subject matter expert and understand both the components and the systems associated with their equipment.
  • Regularly communicates with the Navy, Department Leads, Supply Chain, Vendors, NNL, Engineers/Designers across various Departments, Waterfront, and NAVSEA via email, phone, and in person meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, that includes interfacing with NAVSEA and its prime contractors, equipment suppliers, and shipyard trades and engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
  • Conceptual design knowledge of valve controllers
  • Demonstrate basic engineering project management skills
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve technical design issues
  • Familiarity with IEEE standards
  • Experience with PLC programming and embedded systems software
  • Ability to read, analyze and design electrical schematics
