About the role
- As a System Engineer, you will design and manage a Bare Metal infrastructure for Peopleware's cloud-based solutions. Collaborate closely with development teams to optimize performance and security of the new platform.
Responsibilities
- You will drive the design and implementation of our new bare-metal platform
- From selecting hardware components to implementing a resilient network architecture
- Support and assist with the migration from AWS
- Apply your Linux expertise to optimize our server landscape
- Develop and maintain automation solutions for provisioning and deployment
- Ensure stable, high-performance platform operations
- Implement and monitor infrastructure-level security measures
- Work closely with development teams in a DevOps-oriented way
Requirements
- Knowledge of Linux system administration
- Experience working with bare-metal servers (provisioning e.g., via PXE)
- IPMI, hardware management, BIOS/UEFI configuration
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing, DNS)
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Experience with configuration management and provisioning tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
- Hands-on experience with distributed storage systems (e.g., Ceph)
- Practical experience with logging and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
- Good knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Bash, Python, Go)
- Team player with a proactive, hands-on mentality
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, ArgoCD) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) is a plus
