About the role
- Join the in-house legal team as a Staff or Senior Staff Attorney specializing in Workers’ Compensation. Responsibilities include legal strategies, research, and case resolution with a focus on California.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing complex legal and factual issues
- Conducting extensive research
- Developing well-reasoned legal strategies
- Independently creating and presenting defense strategies on behalf of clients
- Preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs
- Facilitating prompt and efficient resolution of cases
- Preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
- Researching, drafting, filing, and arguing appellate briefs in reviewing courts
- Participating in team huddles and conducting in-house training for junior associates and claims partners
- Engaging in claims file reviews
- Attending continuing legal education seminars
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases
- JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
- Trial experience is preferred
- Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases (for Senior Staff Attorney position)
