About the role

  • Probate attorney representing the Oregon Department of Justice in complex probate cases and civil recovery actions. Collaborating with state agencies, boards, and commissions on diverse legal matters.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the state in probate and protective proceedings
  • Handle estate cases, guardianships, conservatorships, trust litigation, and Medicaid recovery actions
  • Manage a robust probate caseload representing personal representatives or creditors
  • Work on claims arising from contracts, damage to state property, fraud, and overpayments
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients effectively

Requirements

  • Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar by the time of appointment
  • At least three years of experience working as an attorney
  • Superior analytical, advocacy, research, verbal communication, and writing skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Collaborative work history with lawyers and non-lawyers
  • Experience communicating directly with clients and managing client relationships
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and an inclusive working environment
  • Willingness and availability to travel throughout the state for court appearances and other case-related work
