About the role
- Data Infrastructure Engineer managing PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB instances, working on our core IoT data platform with performance tuning and automation. Collaboration with Platform and Backend teams for data optimization.
Responsibilities
- You are responsible for schema design, operation, performance tuning and HA/backup of our PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB instances.
- You build and operate the central data platform for our IoT time-series data — robust, scalable and audit-ready.
- You optimize SQL workloads.
- You set up monitoring & runbooks (Prometheus/Grafana) and automate deployments & maintenance with Ansible/Docker/GitLab CI/CD on Linux hosts.
Requirements
- Several years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and ideally TimescaleDB (time-series): hypertables/partitioning, continuous aggregates, retention policies, materialized views, triggers/background jobs.
- Strong skills in schema design & performance: normalization/denormalization, index strategies (BTREE/GIN/BRIN), EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, planner tuning.
- Operations & HA/Recovery: replication/hot-standby & failover, backup/restore including WAL/PITR and regular restore drills; monitoring with Prometheus/Grafana.
- Security & governance: role/permission management (least-privilege), TLS/certificates, traceable access (audit trails), clear runbooks/incidents.
- Automation & ops: Python, Ansible, Docker, GitLab CI/CD; Linux hosts on dedicated servers (e.g., Hetzner/OVH).
- Very good German language skills (C1) for team communication & documentation; English is an advantage.
