About the role
- COO managing UK operations from South Africa for a maintenance company. Overseeing workflows, team engagement, and operational efficiency across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of approximately 30 staff, one-third based in the UK and two-thirds in South Africa including field engineers.
- Ensuring high performance, development and engagement.
- Oversee daily operations remotely, ensuring smooth workflows and consistent service quality.
- Develop and implement operational processes, policies and KPIs to optimise efficiency and enhance client satisfaction.
- Coordinate scheduling, resource allocation and job prioritisation across multiple teams.
- Monitor operational and financial performance, reporting regularly to the Director/Board.
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of accountability, teamwork and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Proven experience in operational leadership, within maintenance, facilities, or building services.
- Strong background in managing both office and field-based teams, including remote leadership.
- Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with KPIs, budgeting, resource management and process improvement.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to guide, mentor and support teams remotely.
- Familiarity with UK operational, regulatory and health & safety standards.
- Solid technical understanding of multi-trade maintenance services.
- Experience supporting international or cross-border operations is advantageous.
