About the role

  • Application Engineer responsible for creating bids and coordinating technical offers in water transport projects at Xylem. Collaboration with engineering firms and project management for optimal cost calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handle complex tenders and prepare technical and commercial proposals
  • Perform cost estimation and pricing for projects in water transport, pipeline and plant engineering
  • Analyze, evaluate, and review tender documents and prepare bills of quantities (BoQs)
  • Prepare and submit complete bid documents on time
  • Develop technical alternatives and economically advantageous special proposals
  • Develop budgets, cost estimates, and well-founded pricing structures
  • Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor offers in close coordination with project management
  • Prepare for and participate in award and contract negotiations
  • Advise engineering firms, contractors, and end customers on technical and commercial matters
  • Liaise closely with internal specialist departments to ensure optimal project costing
  • Support project handovers and ensure a smooth transition into the implementation phase
  • Provide project-related on-site support as required

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering (e.g., civil, mechanical, or process engineering) or equivalent qualification
  • Several years' experience in bid preparation, cost estimating, or tendering for infrastructure or plant construction projects
  • Solid knowledge of water transport systems (e.g., pumps, piping systems)
  • Experience in civil, plant, or pipeline construction
  • Proficient in handling tender documents, bills of quantities, and technical specifications
  • Experience collaborating with engineering firms, contractors, and end customers
  • Strong understanding of technical and commercial interrelationships and pronounced cost awareness
  • Business-fluent German and good English skills
  • Structured, analytical, and independent working style
  • Strong communication skills and a confident presence with customers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, set priorities, and meet deadlines reliably
  • Solution-oriented thinking and an entrepreneurial approach
  • High self-motivation and the ability to work in a team
