About the role
- MBA Finance Intern supporting financial analysis and partner collaboration in Renewable Energy at WM. Gaining hands-on experience in operational finance, commercial support, and strategic analysis.
Responsibilities
- Support monthly close activities, including variance analysis, journal entry preparation, and review of key financial schedules.
- Partner with the commercial organization to evaluate new opportunities, support pricing and deal analysis, and develop financial models for customer or project scenarios.
- Assist in building or enhancing driver-based forecasting models for revenue, operating costs, and project performance.
- Support the commodity risk management function through data analysis, exposure tracking, and helping evaluate hedge or contract strategies.
- Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis to support decision-making across the Renewable Energy team.
- Work with operations, engineering, and commercial leads to gather data, validate assumptions, and prepare clear and concise insights.
- Help prepare materials for leadership reviews, including forecast updates, performance summaries, and business cases.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to understand business drivers and support ongoing business partnership across the organization.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function, including process documentation, automation opportunities, and standardization of reporting.
Requirements
- Current MBA student with a focus on finance, strategy, or related field.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working with large data sets and converting data into actionable insights.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, or energy markets is a plus.
