About the role

  • Manager, EU Affairs joining UPM to strengthen advocacy work for sustainable materials. Collaborating in Brussels and engaging with key EU policy makers to shape future regulations.

Responsibilities

  • In this role you will be contributing to business success and enabling growth opportunities for the company.
  • You will create value through participating in our Brussels activities, coordinating EU influencing with other team members and more broadly collaborating with our organization.
  • Participate in planning and implementing political engagement for UPM in Brussels focusing on Expanding working relationships with key policy makers in Brussels and strengthen UPM's liaison with key players on EU political affairs
  • Executing planned and consistent outreach for UPM and businesses
  • Developing and managing public affairs communications, planning tools and templates
  • Engage in UPM activities to formulate a consistent policy positioning
  • Contribute to the global UPM Public Affairs networks, specifically providing expertise and insights on EU political processes and agenda
  • Liaise with key EU associations and contribute a clear UPM perspective to their engagement
  • Participate in the daily work and development of UPM Public Affairs team

Requirements

  • You have a university degree and minimum five years of relevant working experience in public affairs, government relations or related
  • You have insights into forest policy, land-use, sustainability and bioeconomy, and related regulatory contexts
  • You have an in-depth understanding of the EU political landscape. Understanding of German or Finnish politics is an additional benefit
  • You have experience and personality to engage at political levels and proven experience in engaging with political players in EU and in identifying legislative proposals early in the process, analyzing their impact on companies' business environment and support strategic responses
  • You have strong communication skills, interest in learning new topics combined with perspective and ability to work in culturally diverse companies
  • You have a commercial mindset and interest in establishing recognition of a Nordic-German company in Brussels political environment
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English, other languages like German, French and Finnish are a plus.
