Responsibilities
Lead the design and definition of Smart Grid architecture, integrating distributed energy resources managers (DERMs), storage and generation sources, energy distribution architectures, grid integration
Analyze and specify requirements for secure, resilient, and scalable grid infrastructures, including automation systems and grid-edge devices
Define and supervise digitalization strategies: implementation of grid management platforms, data analytics solutions, and real-time monitoring for enhanced situational awareness
Coordinate the integration of Smartgrid technologies: energy storage, microgrids, demand response systems, and energy distribution control and integration
Prepare and review technical documentation (architecture designs, interfaces, integration plans, validation protocols) ensuring traceability and compliance
Lead integration testing and validation in lab and field environments, including interoperability testing for legacy and new systems, cyber-physical security assessments, and performance analysis
Collaborate on cybersecurity policy, risk assessment, and the implementation of robust network protections for critical Smart Grid assets
Support regulatory compliance (e.g., IEC 61850, IEEE 2030, ISO/IEC 27019) and contribute to sustainability objectives
Provide training to field engineers and end-users, and facilitate knowledge transfer across multidisciplinary teams
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Industrial Engineering or related fields
Fluent in English and Spanish (C1)
2 to 4 years’ experience in Smart Grid integration projects, including design, implementation, and field validation
Solid knowledge of power system architectures, automation (substations, SCADA, PLCs), and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, MODBUS, CANBUS, etc.)
Practical experience with digital platforms: EMS/DERM systems, data analytics for grid operations, and integration of cloud or edge computing services
In-depth understanding of Smart Grid technologies: distributed energy management, grid automation, IoT for power grids, and advanced communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEEE 2030.5, DLMS/COSEM, etc.)
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for Smart Grids, including threat modeling and mitigation strategies for OT/IT convergence
Familiarity with industry standards, industrial cybersecurity, and risk analysis of critical infrastructure
Experience in requirements specification, system documentation, and coordination with engineering teams
Experience in planning and managing integration and validation testing in the field
Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g. CISSP, Smart Grid certifications)
Experience in Defence and Security Projects is an advantage
Experience/Knowledge in Tactical MicroGrids Standard Reference MIL-STD-3071 application
