About the role
- Senior Environmental Lawyer responsible for consultative and contentious legal issues at Rumo, the largest private freight railway operator in Brazil.
Responsibilities
- Respond to the company’s environmental legal inquiries;
- Manage environmental litigation;
- Monitor provisions and contingencies for environmental cases;
- Track new legislation at all levels, including regulatory agencies;
- Provide periodic refresher training on interactions with public officials for internal clients;
- Support the operational area to assist decision-making on socio-environmental matters;
- Review environmental reports, operational license conditions, and technical documents related to industrial operations;
- Oversee litigation management, including supervision of external legal service providers;
- Analyze bills and proposed legislation that may impact the company;
- Draft and review contracts involving environmental matters;
- Monitor administrative and judicial proceedings;
- Review defenses, appeals, and other procedural documents.
Requirements
- Education: Law degree with active OAB registration and a minimum of 4 years since graduation.
- Technical knowledge:
- Prior experience in Environmental Law, either in-house or at a law firm;
- Assertive communication and strong legal-technical writing skills;
- Confidence and maturity to participate in complex discussions and prepare high-level legal opinions for internal stakeholders, both domestic and international;
- Ability to work collaboratively, with a strong sense of prioritization and organization aligned with area demands;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Pragmatic approach to challenges with a client- and results-oriented focus.
- Differentials:
