About the role
- Legal Counsel providing effective legal advice to manage risk and support Board affairs at Absa in Uganda. Involves managing litigation and advising on revenue-generating contracts with third parties.
Responsibilities
- Provide pragmatic and effective legal advice to manage legal risk
- Ensure analysis, evaluation, and reporting on changes in legislation affecting the business
- Manage litigation and advise on contractual arrangements
- Support Company Secretary on Board affairs
- Review and advise on revenue generating contracts and manage law firm performance
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honors
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
- Enrolment as an advocate of the High Court of Uganda
- At least 5 years post enrolment working experience
- Experience in regulated institutions or commercial law firm
- In-depth understanding of local and group jurisdictions and regulatory requirements for financial institutions
- Very strong communication skills
- Excellent planning & organization skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
