About the role

  • Associate Director responsible for Product Control automation solutions at RBC. Leading transformative initiatives for Macro products with strong technical capabilities using Python and VBA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data validation and business requirements definition for Macro PC onboarding onto PLANET, RBC’s centralised reporting platform, covering FX, Flow Rates, Structured Rates, and Commodities, identifying gaps and remediation actions.
  • Support testing, UAT, and data quality validation for platform onboarding and BAU release cycles, ensuring P&L, balance sheet, and reporting outputs are accurate and complete.
  • Design and build Python and VBA-based automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve control across EUC processes during the platform transition.
  • Lead re-engineering of Macro PC workflows to ensure compatibility with centralised platform data flows, booking conventions, and reporting hierarchies.
  • Assess, catalogue, and prioritise the Macro PC EUC landscape for stabilisation or elimination, defining and executing an EUC elimination roadmap over time.
  • Work closely with the SOP/BPM team to translate newly drafted standards into actionable operational change within Macro PC, identifying and closing gaps between current practice and agreed standards.
  • Build trusted working relationships with Macro PC controllers and stakeholders, facilitating workshops and discovery sessions to drive collaborative process redesign.
  • Share knowledge of platform capabilities with Macro PC teams and support the development of runbooks and training materials in collaboration with the BPM team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in a Product Control, Finance Change, or Finance Transformation role within a capital markets environment
  • Strong understanding of Macro products (FX, Rates, and Commodities) and the associated P&L and balance sheet reporting lifecycle
  • Hands-on proficiency in Python, including pandas, with the ability to write end-to-end data extraction, transformation, and reconciliation scripts independently
  • Hands-on proficiency in VBA for Excel and Access automation, with the ability to assess, refactor, and document legacy EUC tools to production standard
  • Experience auditing and rationalising an EUC landscape, including cataloguing tools, assessing risk, and delivering structured remediation or elimination plans
  • Experience implementing process change in line with documented SOPs and standards, with the ability to interpret process documentation and drive adoption with the business.
  • Familiarity with BPM frameworks sufficient to interpret and implement documented standards effectively.
  • Experience defining and executing an EUC-to-platform migration roadmap in a regulated financial environment.
  • Accounting qualification not essential but experience gained within a Product Control department highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with SQL to interrogate source systems, validate data flows, and support upstream analysis.
  • Comfortable with other transformation tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, or equivalent as the situation demands.
