About the role

  • Engineering Technician III responsible for highway construction material quality assurance. Overseeing testing and inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting materials on highway construction projects throughout the assigned Division in order to assure that they meet prescribed standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for performing assessments of producer/contractor technicians to ensure that they are performing quality control and acceptance testing properly according to prescribed standards and specifications.
  • Provides instruction in the Department’s certification programs.
  • Must be able to sample and test asphalt, aggregate, concrete and soils materials used in highway construction.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess testing proficiency of technicians to ensure compliance with established testing methods.
  • Experience evaluating and reviewing inspectors’ reports related to compliance with specifications.
  • Experience working in close quarters with restricted movement, climbing bridge substructures, and/or working over water or over and around high volumes of traffic.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with DOT staff, Contractors, and Industry Partners.
  • Experience using computers and various computer software on a regular basis.
