Head of Accounting leading accounting operations for Nexi across Croatia and Slovenia. Overseeing compliance, financial reporting, and team mentorship in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
Perform, organise and supervise daily accounting tasks, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
Actively participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Review AP/AR bookings, payroll accounting, fixed asset entries (leasing included), bank reconciliations, etc.
Maintain and update the chart of accounts, accounting policies, and internal procedures.
Review inventory accounting, cost allocations, and intercompany transactions.
Daily monitoring and reconciliation Clearing, Settlement & Safeguarding accounts and governance.
Treasury and liquidity management.
Support implementation of new accounting software modules or process automation initiatives.
Prepare statutory financial statements for Croatia and Slovenia.
Ensure timely submission of statistical reports, regulatory filings, and other mandatory disclosures.
Coordinate with auditors or any other regulatory body (i.e Croatian National bank) during audits and ensure accurate documentation and explanations.
Ensure accurate internal and external reporting, including regulatory reporting related to safeguarded funds or settlement activities.
Prepare or review monthly and annual tax calculations and tax returns (CIT, VAT, WHT, Transfer pricing study).
Manage tax reconciliations and ensure correct posting of tax-specific accounts.
Conduct detailed VAT and CIT reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Maintain direct communication with tax and other authorities; handle inquiries, audits, and clarifications.
Monitor tax obligations, deadlines, and changes in legislation; implement required adjustments in processes.
Perform regular internal control checks on key financial processes (revenue recognition, expenses, payroll, etc.).
Identify inefficiencies in accounting and tax workflows and implement improvements.
Develop and maintain process documentation and controls aligned with internal requirements.
Drive accuracy and efficiency through automation and digitalization initiatives.
Support local business teams with operational accounting and tax guidance, including project assessments and transaction impacts.
Provide analysis of financial results, tax impacts, and deviations from budget.
Work closely with regional finance, shared service centers, and external advisors.
Lead, mentor, and support the local accounting teams in Croatia and Slovenia.
Allocate tasks, supervise performance, and ensure operational excellence.
Provide training in accounting standards, tax procedures, and internal systems.
Requirements
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
Professional certificate (CPA, ACCA, or local equivalent) highly desirable.
8+ years of accounting and tax experience, including operational involvement in monthly closing and tax filings.
Strong knowledge of Croatian and Slovenian accounting legislation, tax laws, and IFRS.
Proven experience in both hands-on operational accounting and team leadership.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP is advantage).
Fluent English.
