About the role
- Legal Counsel managing legal affairs for Men in Blazers Media Network in New York City. Providing strategic legal advice and ensuring compliance with media laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice to the Leadership team, management, and the Board of Directors on all business-related issues.
- Review, negotiate, manage and track various contracts, agreements, and transactions; including, but not limited to, advertising agreements, music license agreements, employment agreements, service and vendor agreements and technology and IT agreements.
- Ensure the company adheres to corporate governance principles and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee compliance programs to ensure adherence to local, state, federal, and media-specific laws and regulations, such as those related to content, advertising (FTC), data privacy, and employee matters.
- Protect and enforce the company's intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyrights, and licensing.
- Manage legal disputes, identify legal risks, and implement strategies to mitigate them.
- Oversee and coordinate with external legal counsel on specialized or complex matters.
- Coordinate with various departments to align legal strategies with business goals.
Requirements
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school with exceptional academic credentials and member in good standing of at least one US State Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years corporate legal experience at a law firm or in-house corporate legal department.
- Broadcast, FCC or other media law related experience is a plus.
- Deep understanding of the media industry and related legal areas, such as First Amendment law, advertising regulations (FTC), data privacy, editorial content, and publishing.
- Strong expertise in various areas of law, including contracts, corporate law, employment law, and intellectual property.
- Ability to think strategically, analyze complex situations, and provide proactive solutions to anticipated legal issues.
- Exceptional leadership, management, and strong oral and written communication skills.
- A high degree of professional ethics and integrity to guide the organization in complex legal and ethical situations.
