About the role

• Legal Counsel drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for Digital Catapult. Advising on legal queries and providing training on legal aspects and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements on both the sales and purchasing side and also in a collaborative R&D context.
• Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
• Advising on general legal (and commercial) queries from the business, managing work flows and providing timely solutions.
• Legal Research.
• Creation of guidance and tool kits for the business.
• Providing training to the business on a range of legal areas, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• A qualified solicitor in England & Wales, ideally 1-3 years PQE.
• Strong subject knowledge in contract and commercial law (including GDPR/ ABC), and experience of IP and IT law.
• Demonstrable experience of leading negotiations and providing specialist/technical advice to managers to resolve immediate issues.
• Proactive, driven and self-confident, adaptable and able to cope with ambiguity, changing and evolving priorities in a busy department.
• Ability to work autonomously and have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Experience in delivering an in-house legal service is desirable but not essential.
