Responsibilities

Represent Canada Operational Risk Management by collaborating with stakeholders across Canada, North America, and Liberty offices worldwide to ensure effective risk oversight of business processes
Implement, monitor, and continuously enhance a comprehensive Operational Risk Management program and its associated controls and processes, including the identification and oversight of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and tolerance thresholds across risk areas such as underwriting operations, technology and cyber, data, third‑party providers, model risk, talent, compliance, tax, and operational resilience
Coordinate with the business on periodic risk and control self‑attestations to validate controls, confirm risk ownership, and ensure timely remediation of identified gaps
Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify, assess, and prioritize operational risks, enhancing awareness of risk scenarios that could threaten strategic objectives or lead to material operational losses
Act as a trusted advisor on operational risk, offering insights and guidance to business stakeholders on risk identification, mitigation strategies, and risk‑and‑control assessments
Monitor shifts in the operational risk profile and key risk drivers, analyze findings to uncover themes, trends, and emerging issues, and use these insights to shape mitigation strategies
Ensure awareness of and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements /guidelines.
Support assessment and aggregation of the GRS operational risk profile, coordinating closely with the wider GRS Operational Risk Management team
Establish and maintain robust risk‑reporting systems that deliver timely, accurate operational risk insights and escalate issues as needed
Participate in group‑wide harmonization of operational risk methodology and support consolidation of enterprise operational risk platforms
Contribute to the GRS rollout and operationalization of the new group‑wide operational risk management system for Canada
Assist the AVP, Risk Manager with preparation for Canada Risk Committee and GRS Operational Risk Management Committee meetings, and present to these committees as required
Lead large-scale projects (e.g., third‑party risk management, operational resiliency) from concept through implementation with minimal supervision
Prioritize workload effectively to meet competing demands and deadlines
Challenge the status quo, pilot new approaches, and help develop industry‑leading ERM practices that support the business’s resilience and growth
Support additional initiatives as needed to advance the ERM function and the broader Liberty Mutual Canada and GRS objectives
Requirements
Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor’s degree and at least 8-10 years of relevant work experience.
Advanced education or professional qualification(s) are preferred (MBA, CPA, or similar), as is having a professional qualification in one or more areas of risk management.
Experience in operational risk management including assessment methodologies and risk reporting.
Strong knowledge of operational processes, controls, and regulations within the Finance industry, preferably gained through prior roles in insurance or banking.
Ability to build strong partnerships with stakeholders at all levels and across functional areas, influencing and holding accountable as appropriate.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both formal and informal settings, as well as a proven ability to effectively present technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
Ability to perform high level work both independently and collaboratively as a team member or leader.
Analytical mindset with the ability to perform complex analysis and make data-driven decisions.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
