Engineer designing, developing, and testing nuclear equipment and systems for Navy ships at Newport News Shipbuilding. Collaborating on safety, efficiency, and performance improvements while conducting relevant research and analysis.
Responsibilities
Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics.
Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
Develop, maintain, and coordinate the Nuclear Work Package in the applicable AWPs, and ensure accurate identification and assignment of NPD work.
Understanding of Nuclear work and how new/modified work will impact other contracted work.
Support Meetings for Internal and External Customers (e.g. Agenda meetings, IPT, E81 program reviews, scoping meetings with program office/govt), Provide guidance to teams on applicable scopes for work
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Extensive knowledge of E81 scope of work and ship systems
