About the role

  • Senior Mobile Developer (Android) supporting Sony Sports Technology’s in-house mobile application for live sports tracking. Focusing on enhancing performance, stability, and integrating machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to a production in-house Android application used internally by Sony Sports Technology’s tracking and development teams
  • Enhancing and modernising an existing Android application
  • Improving performance, stability, and user experience
  • Working directly with mobile camera pipelines using the Android Camera 2 API
  • Integrating and running machine learning models on-device to support ball and player tracking
  • Optimising threading models, lifecycle management, and performance for real-time workloads
  • Supporting hands-on testing in live sports environments, including occasional on-site testing
  • Collaborating closely with Tracking and Computer Vision teams to ensure clean system integration
  • Leading best practices for Android mobile development
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Kotlin-based Android applications
  • Owning complex features from design through to delivery
  • Supporting testing, debugging, and deployment of new features
  • Participating in technical discussions and code reviews
  • Contributing pragmatically in an agile, sprint-based environment

Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on experience in Android development using Kotlin
  • Deep understanding of Android application architecture, lifecycle, and threading
  • Proven experience working with the Camera 2 API in production
  • Experience building high-performance, real-time mobile applications
  • Solid understanding of software design principles and clean code practices
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
  • Experience running or integrating machine learning models on mobile devices (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of on-device performance optimisation for video or ML workloads (highly desirable)
  • Experience with mobile video capture or processing pipelines (bonus)
