Responsibilities
Support the City’s planning and development and engineering divisions with legal advocacy.
Provide high quality and effective legal advice and services to management and staff.
Develop proactive strategies to protect the interests of the City and reduce legal risks.
Ensure legal services contribute to effective programs and services including research and advice.
Review and prepare documents, policies and procedures for legal compliance.
Provide legal opinions and advice on matters posing significant risks to the City.
Work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and City policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor of Laws degree or Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized University.
Membership in good standing in the Law Society of Ontario.
3-5 years of post-call experience in planning, development and administrative law.
Demonstrated interest in municipal law.
High level of professionalism and integrity.
Excellent communication skills.
Highly developed analytical and business planning skills.
Experience in designing and delivering customer focused programs and services.
Excellent presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Understanding of key statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the Division and municipality.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.
Computer skills in a Windows environment utilizing MS Office software.
