About the role
- Senior Highway Design Engineer designing rehabilitation projects in Ontario for diverse team at EXP. Conducting detailed designs and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Prepare preliminary design reports (PDR), design criteria, preliminary and detailed designs associated with new and/or the rehabilitation of divided highways, arterial regional roads, collector roads, and local roads.
- Prepare preliminary designs for CADD staff and review drawings for compliance with applicable industry and client standards.
- Prepare Contract Specifications, Tender Documents, and Applications for Agency Approvals.
- Review and issue finalized Shop Drawings.
- Coordinate and mentor junior staff working within the division.
- Liaise with Clients, Sub-consultants, Contractors and construction supervision staff.
- Assist with the preparation of Proposals for future projects.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario with PEO with 10+ years, preferably from a consulting engineering office environment in Ontario.
- Experience on P3, Design-Build and Infrastructure Ontario-Metrolinx projects would be an asset.
- Approved in MTO-RAQS under the Highway Engineering-Detailed Design Category for Detailed Design - Multilane Arterial & Expressway.
- Emphasis and proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D. Experience with earlier versions of MicroStation and InRoads will be considered.
- Strong computer software skills with ProjectWise, Word, Excel & MS Project.
- Highly proficient in the use of MTO’s software applications CPS and HiCo.
- Comprehensive knowledge with MTO and Metrolinx standards, including various Municipal & Regional design and drafting standards.
- Skilled in cost estimating, quantity preparation and specification writing.
- Have a track record of gaining approval of infrastructure designs from MTO, roads authorities and environmental agencies.
- Independent, Organized and Motivated Team player with excellent oral and written communication skills; and
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules in a fast-paced turnaround environment.
