Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer supporting HVAC design at IKM Building Solutions in Wisconsin. Assisting with HVAC system layouts, drawings, and collaborating with internal teams.
Responsibilities
Assist with creating HVAC system designs, including drawings, specifications, and system narratives.
Design heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning layouts using CAD software.
Perform basic heat gain/loss calculations for residential and commercial projects.
Support internal design, construction, and service teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
Help prepare designs for negotiated and Design/Build projects.
Assist with conceptual cost estimates for a wide range of HVAC systems.
Participate in QA/QC processes to ensure design quality.
Review and interpret architectural drawings and 3D models to support design decisions.
Support project scheduling, manpower planning, and budget development.
Assist with construction administration, including field visits and investigations.
Help process Submittals, RFIs, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Record Drawings.
Recommend product improvements or cost-saving opportunities when identified.
Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain consistent design standards.
Attend department meetings and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Basic knowledge of HVAC principles and system applications
Familiarity with building codes (preferred)
Exposure to reading architectural drawings and/or 3D models (coursework accepted)
Interest in LEED principles related to HVAC design (preferred)
Ability to pursue a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the future (PE not required for entry-level)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Exposure to AutoCAD MEP and/or energy modeling software (Trane Trace, Carrier HAP) a plus
