About the role
- Transportation Manager overseeing daily outbound transportation operations and managing logistics team performance. Ensuring customer satisfaction and cost targets alignment while reporting to upper management.
Responsibilities
- A transportation manager serves as a contact point for all workers within a particular area.
- Investigates, verifies and resolves customer or shipper complaints.
- Oversees daily outbound transportation operations to ensure service and cost targets are met.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with LTL, TL, and parcel carriers to optimize performance and spend.
- Develop and manage the transportation budget, identifying continuous cost reduction opportunities.
- Partner with planning and customer service teams to align shipment schedules with customer requirements.
- Utilize TMS, YMS, and WMS platforms to track shipments, optimize routing, and manage documentation.
- Lead, coach, and develop transportation team members to drive operational excellence.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, cost, damage, and carrier performance.
- Responsible for weekly and monthly reports required by the controller.
- Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of transportation or logistics experience
- Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
- WMS experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong focus on team development and accountability
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong geographic knowledge
- Demonstrated sound judgment, strong work ethic, and high integrity.
