VP, Regulatory Counsel providing legal and regulatory advice to ensure compliance for fintech cryptocurrency products. Interface externally with regulators and service providers to safeguard from legal liabilities.
Responsibilities
Act as the primary legal point of contact for Product and Engineering teams, providing end-to-end legal guidance from the "ideation" phase through to product launch and beyond.
Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on regulatory and policy issues related to the crypto industry, blockchain technology, and emerging DeFi protocols.
Leverage knowledge to provide sound legal guidance on tech-related financial regulation, consumer protection, and the legal implications of smart contract logic.
Carefully draft and meticulously review legal documents, including Terms of Service, developer agreements, and tech-related corporate or regulatory filings.
Advise on ensuring compliance with applicable laws governing financial services, crypto, decentralized applications, and cross-border licensing requirements.
Review product features and UI/UX flows to identify and mitigate legal risks while maintaining a seamless user experience.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to offer actionable legal advice that balances business innovation with regulatory constraints.
Represent the company in negotiations and interactions with regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders regarding product-specific legal frameworks.
Maintain awareness of legal and regulatory developments in the crypto industry and proactively share insights to help pivot product strategy when necessary.
Interact with regulators and assist with licensing applications or inquiries related to specific product offerings.
Requirements
Possess 5-8 years of well-rounded experience as a lawyer, with a distinct focus on product counsel or regulatory affairs within the fintech/crypto sector.
Strong, substantive understanding of blockchain technology, smart contracts, and the mechanics of decentralized financial products.
Familiar with financial products and relevant global licensing and regulatory requirements (e.g., AML/KYC, securities laws, and VASP frameworks).
Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, adeptly working both independently and as a collaborative partner to technical teams.
Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to provide practical, "solution-oriented" legal advice on complex tech-related matters.
Strong communicator with a flair in translating complex compliance requirements into actionable guidance for cross-functional stakeholders.
