About the role
- Operational Risk Senior Manager responsible for AI risk oversight and assurance at CommBank. Collaborating with technology teams to support responsible innovation and risk management practices.
Responsibilities
- Deliver risk advisory, review and assurance activities for initiatives involving AI, advanced analytics and automation, leveraging data‑driven insights where appropriate
- Partner with Line 1 Risk, Product Owners, Data & Analytics and Technology teams to deliver pragmatic, commercially balanced risk advice across the AI and model lifecycle
- Contribute to the development and uplift of operational risk frameworks, policies, reporting and governance related to AI, data and emerging technologies
- Keep pace with AI technology advancements to drive awareness and adoption, including leading the development of AI productivity agents
- Accountable for Line 2 Operational Risk monitoring oversight over AI use cases.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in AI/data science, computer science, mathematics/statistics or other numerate discipline, engineering, actuarial studies or equivalent professional experience
- Proven quantitative / modelling capability
- 5+ years’ experience in financial services risk, operational risk or model risk management with demonstrable ownership of model governance or model lifecycle activities beneficial but not a prerequisite
- Practical understanding of AI/ML concepts, model testing and validation, and modern generative AI (LLMs) risks and controls
- Proven experience in building, reviewing or challenging complex models or AI use cases especially Generative AI or Agentic (desirable)
- Excellent stakeholder management: experience providing balanced, pragmatic risk advice and proven ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences at senior levels
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing clear management reports and governance papers.
