About the role
- Senior Legal Counsel providing legal counsel for the Payments and Everyday Business Banking team at CommBank. Engaging in regulatory advice, product innovation, and contract negotiations.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, practical legal advice to assist CommBank
- Assist with regulatory matters including breach advices and responses to regulator requests
- Participate in regulatory change initiatives
- Support new product and service innovation and enhancements
- Negotiate contracts with various stakeholders in the payments ecosystem
- Provide general banking and financial services advice
- Identify opportunities to simplify frameworks, policies and processes for effectiveness and efficiency
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in law and 5+ years relevant post admission/qualification experience (PAE)
- Ideally at least 4 years’ experience in private practice
- Excellent technical legal skills including the ability to quickly grasp, negotiate and resolve issues in complex matters
- Sound knowledge of Australian financial services laws and current issues applying to banking
- The ability to draft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements
- The capacity to build excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders
- A team-oriented outlook, a sense of humour, unquestioned ethics and integrity, sound judgment and humility
- Interest in payments, platforms and networks.
