About the role
- Senior Storage Engineer expanding and tuning Ceph storage for DataCrunch’s European AI cloud. Driving automation, OpenStack integration, and cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Expand and set up new storage systems to meet scaling demands
- Performance tuning of Ceph clusters (object, block, shared storage)
- Automate deployment, monitoring, and operational workflows
- Troubleshoot complex system-level issues in production
- Provide customer assistance and ensure reliability and performance standards are met
- Collaborate with the Cloud and Backend teams on storage presentation and integrations
- Drive adoption of OpenStack storage across the organisation
- Contribute to shaping long-term storage strategy, scaling services across clouds, and ensuring infrastructure resilience and future-proofing
Requirements
- Deep experience with Linux systems
- Proven expertise with large Ceph installations, including CEPHFS and MDS tuning
- Hands-on knowledge of multi-site S3/RGW deployments
- Skilled in system tuning and optimisation for performance and reliability
- Strong automation background (Ansible, Bash, Python)
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform
- Experience with Git and version control workflows
- Exposure to Kubernetes (bare metal and cloud deployments)
- Familiarity with OpenStack environments
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in customer-facing situations
- (Nice to have) Broader storage technology experience beyond Ceph
- (Nice to have) Performance tuning across diverse storage stacks
- (Nice to have) Experience with backup systems and disaster recovery
- (Nice to have) Strong networking skills and understanding of load balancing
