Litigation Assistant collaborating with legal counsel to manage disability and life insurance cases. Responsible for organizing claim files and maintaining electronic records within a legal team setting.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal litigation counsel and law clerks
Assist with a large portfolio of disability, life insurance and investment related actions
Request and organize claim files
Serve pleadings, affidavits of documents, mediation briefs, and pretrial materials
Update and maintain electronic records on various Sun Life systems
Oversee the electronic filing of documentation and correspondence
Arrange for payment of various invoices relating to defence medicals and mediations
Develop and maintain knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
Requirements
A minimum of 5 years’ work experience as a litigation assistant
An understanding of Ontario’s Rules of Civil Procedure
A litigation assistant diploma or equivalent
Attention to detail and dependability
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
Decisiveness and ability to carry out legal assistant responsibilities with minimal direction
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a large volume of tasks
Strong technological aptitude including command of Microsoft Office or similar software
Bilingualism (French, English) for Quebec only
