Data Center Hardware Engineer ensuring hardware performance and reliability for Bumble's data center operations. Collaborating with Service Reliability and Network Engineering to support global connectivity.
Responsibilities
Maintain and upgrade physical data center hardware — including servers, switches, and routers — ensuring consistent uptime and optimal performance.
Diagnose and replace failing components (CPU, RAM, HDD, NIC, etc.) following vendor specifications and Bumble’s internal procedures.
Install, configure, and decommission data center equipment according to detailed engineering plans, maintaining clear documentation and traceability.
Manage cabling operations (copper and fiber) — connecting, organizing, and labeling network infrastructure with precision and safety.
Collaborate with vendors on RMA (Return Material Authorization) processes, ensuring quick resolution of hardware issues.
Maintain accurate inventories of spare parts, tools, and network devices to support efficient service continuity.
Draft clear, step-by-step technical instructions for remote or third-party field engineers to execute safely and correctly.
Perform emergency maintenance or urgent repairs outside standard hours when required (light 24/7 rotation).
Apply AI-assisted diagnostic tools and predictive analytics to identify early hardware degradation and optimize maintenance cycles.
Work cross-functionally and demonstrate an **agile mindset**, adapting to evolving data center technologies and operational demands.
Requirements
You bring hands-on experience in maintaining data center or enterprise hardware environments — from server builds to cabling and component replacement.
You’re comfortable performing physical work in constrained environments (lifting up to 25kg/50lbs, kneeling, crouching, running cables, or accessing server racks safely). *We will make reasonable adjustments for any candidate with a disability to ensure full access to this role.*
You can explain technical processes clearly to non-technical colleagues and write concise, well-structured documentation.
You collaborate naturally with SRE and Network Engineering teams, sharing insights and supporting continuous improvement.
You’re familiar with Linux command-line environments and comfortable applying vendor firmware and BIOS upgrade procedures.
You show initiative, work effectively with minimal supervision, and demonstrate ownership in your domain.
You’re curious about how AI can support smarter monitoring, faster diagnosis, and safer automation in data center operations.
You model Bumble’s **values of Respect and Excellence**, and embody our core competencies:
Typically requires **2–5 years of experience**, though we welcome candidates with alternative backgrounds that demonstrate equivalent skills.
A university degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or IT hardware is desirable but not required.
