About the role
- Legal advisor for Nodal Exchange providing regulatory compliance and contract negotiation. Requires several years of legal experience, preferably in finance or derivatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal and regulatory advice and counsel for Nodal’s exchange and clearing house pursuant to the Commodity Exchange Act and the CFTC Regulations.
- Work with other attorneys in General Counsel’s office and engage with business to address any regulatory or commercial business needs in a legally compliant manner.
- Stay on top of changing regulations and relevant industry trends.
- Assist or lead the preparation, review, editing, or negotiating of business contracts.
- Structure and draft agreements, amendments, addenda, and other documents to comply with new and existing regulatory responsibilities.
- Draft, review, and maintain all company policies and procedures as needed.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the legal needs, policies, and procedures of the business.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admitted to the Virginia Bar in good standing or otherwise admitted in another state with ability to become authorized to practice law as in-house counsel in Virginia.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple matters at once and complete them in an organized and timely manner.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to address complex legal problems and business needs without compromising work quality.
- Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Diligent team player with a good sense of humor.
- A minimum of 6 to 10 years relevant experience as a practicing attorney as either an associate or counsel at a law firm, or with a government agency, or in-house legal department in a financial related business.
- Ability to work with little supervision and cooperatively in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of one or more specialty areas including contracts, licensing, intellectual property, technology, employment, privacy, and security.
- Working knowledge of applicable legal/regulatory requirements related to the financial industry (i.e. CFTC, SEC, FDIC, FED, OCC, or CFPB) is a plus.
