Senior Tooling Engineer responsible for plastic injection molds and tooling designs for high-volume manufacturing at Zoetis. Requires collaboration with multiple teams in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
Support CM’s on maintenance of injection molding tooling fleet
Design, develop, and optimize new plastic injection molds and tooling
Define and standardize tool maintenance/cleaning process
Drive root cause analysis and issue resolution
Create spare tool/part inventory and strategy
Benchmark repair/troubleshooting activities across suppliers
Identify weak areas in tools to proactively fix them
Manage tool health and create retirement plan
Review and approve tool design and Moldflow
Optimize tooling designs for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and quality
Oversee fabrication, testing, and validation of new molds and tooling
Track mold build activities and ensure compliance to schedule
Support tool bring-up on-site at suppliers
Own and update mold design CAD and 2D files
Implement continuous improvement initiatives for tooling performance
Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering with 5+ years of experience
FDA, USDA experience or work in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in diagnostics or biodevice industry
Proven experience with high-volume manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding processes, and tooling design principles
Experience with contract manufacturing organizations and third-party suppliers
Proficiency in Moldflow and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Experience with Operational Excellence tools such as DMAIC, 5 why’s, Fishbones, FMEA, etc.
Green belt or Black belt certification is a plus
Proficient computer skills such as Excel, Word, MS Visio, JMP, Minitab, or similar software.
