Senior Electronics Engineer responsible for shaping Wattbike’s next generation of connected training products. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality electronic systems for indoor cycling.
Responsibilities
Ownership: Quickly become the internal authority on Wattbike electronics systems
Processes: Implementation of best practice across the design and development of Wattbike electronics
Quality: Identify opportunities to improve quality, reliability, and maintainability
Define and maintain best practices for hardware development, documentation, and revision control.
Identify opportunities to improve reliability, assembly efficiency, and product quality through better design and process control.
Lead initiatives to streamline electronics development and testing workflows.
Manage component lifecycle, obsolescence, and supply chain risks.
Investigate and resolve hardware issues across development and production stages.
Develop and execute hardware validation plans to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
Support pre-compliance testing for EMC, safety, and wireless certification (CE, UKCA, FCC, etc.).
Investigate and resolve issues identified in testing, production, or field use through structured root-cause analysis.
Lead the design and development of electronics hardware for new and existing Wattbike products.
Create detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware documentation using Altium Designer (or similar).
Drive continuous improvement of existing circuit designs, focusing on reliability, manufacturability, and cost optimisation.
Integrate sensors, displays, power management, and communication modules into complete system designs.
Develop and debug low-power embedded systems with wireless connectivity (BLE, ANT+, Wi-Fi).
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and contribute to long-term product roadmap discussions.
Act as the internal authority for electronics design and development within Wattbike.
Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and product teams to ensure seamless integration across disciplines.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional colleagues.
Work directly with external suppliers and manufacturing partners in China and Taiwan to ensure quality, consistency, and scalability.
Requirements
Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
10+ years experience embedded engineering with 5+ years in a lead engineering role
Proven experience designing and developing electronic systems for consumer or industrial products.
An engineering leader with experience and confidence working in teams, liaising with partners and working as a stand-alone resource.
Strong understanding of low-power embedded design and wireless communication protocols (BLE, ANT+, Wi-Fi).
Experience in low-power system design, RTOS environments, and peripheral interfacing (I²C, SPI, UART, ADCs).
Knowledge of IoT or connected device development.
Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g. Altium Designer or similar).
Experience with circuit simulation, analysis, and debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analysers.
Experience leading relevant compliance and certification processes (EMC, safety, wireless) and taking a product from concept through to successful certification.
Experience in product lifecycle management and DFM/DFT (Design for Manufacture/Test).
Experience in solo R&D work, problem solving technical challenges and developing new features and functionality.
Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and external manufacturing partners.
Experience working with manufacturing partners and supporting product ramp-up or production.
Embedded firmware and software development experience.
Interest in sports technology or connected fitness equipment.
