Underwriting Officer specializing in Ocean Marine underwriting strategies for small and mid-size businesses. Assessing risks and driving the execution of underwriting strategies in the Ocean Marine sector.
Responsibilities
As an underwriting subject matter expert, assess, design, implement, and/or lead regional underwriting strategies and practices in support of profit and growth objectives.
Oversee and influence underwriting execution through individual risk and/or portfolio CUREs as well as through the evaluation of underwriter proficiency and underwriting quality.
Drive the development of key underwriting capabilities and best practices through coaching and trainings while educating underwriters on strategy and guidelines to enhance regional efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitor trends, emerging issues, and underwriting results for regional book of business and partner with underwriting leadership to take action, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree.
Eight or more years of commercial underwriting experience with experience in Ocean Marine.
Expert level knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, Ocean Marine products, as well as the regulatory environment and local insurance marketplace.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting and financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with risk appetite.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
Six years of commercial underwriting experience is a must.
