Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve our Ruby on Rails applications supporting operational workflows.
- Write clean, well-tested code and uphold strong security and data integrity standards.
- Manage third-party integrations, ensuring reliable and secure data exchange.
- Work with the Platform team on AWS-based deployments and CI/CD processes.
- Optimise background processing and database performance to maintain system stability.
- Support investigation and resolution of production issues.
- Partner with Frontend and Mobile engineers to deliver robust, scalable APIs.
- Contribute to improving deployment practices, monitoring, and long-term maintainability.
- Act as the technical owner of production systems that directly impact live rail operations, ensuring high availability and rapid incident resolution.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and Rails architecture
- Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and complex queries.
- Experience with background job processing using Sidekiq and Redis.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, JSON serialization, and authentication (e.g., JWT, SSO).
- Hands-on experience with AWS services and containerised deployments (Docker).
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting production systems.
- Comfortable working within and improving existing codebases.
- Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with Git/GitHub.
