About the role
- Financial Data Engineer Intern assisting with model integration and process automation at Transamerica. Focused on data engineering tasks with collaboration across IT and Finance teams.
Responsibilities
- Code using Python and/or SQL.
- Optimize business performance by enhancing the alignment between business processes and IT, building and sustaining a process-managed Asset and Liability Management (ALM) organization.
- Focus on the human, organizational and value stream aspects of business processes and their transformation.
- Collect and analyze process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures that focus on improved analytics, increased productivity and reduced cost.
- Implement automated processes for all aspects of ALM, including investment analytics, trade processing and hedge design.
- Analyze and measure the effectiveness of existing business processes and develop sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable business process improvements.
- Collaborates with IT, Finance, Actuarial and other areas throughout the firm to ensure that ALM processes are compatible with firm objectives and technology environment.
- Determine how new information technologies can support reengineering business processes.
- Help to reengineer legacy processes without disrupting business as usual.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Big Data, Quantitative Finance, Financial Modeling, or a similar program.
- Internships are not available for students who have completed their college education or who will graduate prior to the conclusion of the internship.
- Excellent working knowledge of database/data warehouse programming in Python.
- Some knowledge of finance modeling.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience in process engineering, accounting, financial technology, or quality control.
- Derivative knowledge and basic experience of data processing in Microsoft Power BI a plus.
- Decent technical writing skills.
