About the role
- VP, Head of Property overseeing P&L and market strategy for Property insurance in Belgium & Netherlands. Leading underwriting excellence and team development within Sompo's framework.
Responsibilities
- Own full P&L responsibility for the Bene Property portfolio, ensuring profitable growth and disciplined underwriting.
- Develop and execute the regional Property market strategy in alignment with Continental Europe leadership.
- Build Sompo’s market presence and reputation as a leading Property insurer in Belgium and the Netherlands.
- Build and lead a high-performing underwriting team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Represent Bene Property within the European leadership team, contributing to regional strategy and portfolio steering.
- Act as Sompo’s senior ambassador in the Bene market, cultivating strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key industry stakeholders.
- Drive new business development and retention through proactive engagement, negotiation, and strategic account management.
- Strengthen Sompo’s broker positioning and visibility through targeted marketing, thought leadership, and participation in industry forums.
- Oversee underwriting quality, governance, and portfolio balance across risk segments and industries in line with regional strategy.
- Provide guidance on complex risks, major accounts, and global program structures.
- Ensure underwriting documentation, data quality, and contract integrity meet Sompo’s standards.
- Collaborate closely with Claims, Risk Engineering, Distribution, and other internal partners to deliver a seamless client experience.
- Support regional initiatives, innovation projects, and strategic developments that enhance Sompo’s competitive position.
- Represent Sompo in high-level commercial negotiations, press engagements, and corporate communications activities.
Requirements
- 10+ years of senior underwriting and leadership experience in Property insurance in Belgium and/or the Netherlands.
- Deep expertise in large and complex Property risks, including international programs.
- A strong, established network within the Bene broker and risk manager community.
- Proven success in building and growing profitable portfolios.
- A visible, empowering leadership style with the ability to inspire, develop, and guide teams.
- Strong strategic thinking combined with the ability to deliver practical, tactical solutions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- High integrity, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and its impact on underwriting and business development.
- Fluency in English and Dutch; French is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
