About the role
- Lead Counsel providing legal counsel and strategic support to Citi's Wealth Business in Mumbai. Involves collaborating across internal and external teams for legal compliance and risk management.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing legal counsel to the Wealth Business
- Participating in strategic initiatives
- Providing subject matter expertise and interpretations of relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices
- Advising business management on legal matters impacting the business
- Partnering with legal peers to evaluate business proposals
- Collaborating across internal lines of business and external counsel
- Participating in Wealth planning and development initiatives
- Assisting team in identifying, evaluating and managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk
- Managing day-to-day legal activities
- Monitoring management of complex legal issues and transactions
- Supporting the business on the review of client wealth structures
- Addressing routing queries from front office staff regarding client account documentation
- Partnering with Cross Enterprise Legal and/or Wealth lawyers to manage legal compliance
- Reviewing regulatory pipelines and new business initiatives
Requirements
- 4-6 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services
- Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
- Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends
- Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
- Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
- Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
- Bar license in good standing to practice law
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
