About the role
- Lead Backend Engineer designing and building backend services for AI agents platform at Botpress. Collaborating with teams to improve system performance and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of backend services and APIs that support mission-critical product features
- Own architecture decisions around scalability, reliability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Build and maintain distributed systems, databases, and internal tooling
- Establish strong engineering practices around code quality, testing, observability, and deployment
- Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance and review
- Drive improvements in system performance, security, and infrastructure efficiency
- Help define backend technical strategy as the company scales
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with high-scale SaaS platforms, developer tools, and/or AI-driven products
- Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, Nodejs, and operating backend systems in production
- You’ve led technical projects end-to-end and enjoy taking ownership
- Strong understanding of APIs, databases, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
- Comfortable balancing speed and quality in a fast-moving environment
- You write clean, maintainable code and care about long-term system health
- You enjoy mentoring teammates and setting a high engineering bar
- You thrive in collaborative teams where engineering and product work closely together
