Responsibilities
To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.
Requirements
A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline
Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts
The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income
Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
