About the role
- Principal Mechanical Engineer driving mechanical design from concept to production for audio hardware at Avid. Collaborating with teams to deliver innovative and reliable designs.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the conceptual design phase of new product development
- Create detailed CAD assemblies and models in SolidWorks based on industrial design concepts and renderings
- Design components and assemblies using sheet metal, extrusions, die castings, and injection-molded plastics
- Revise and improve existing product designs to resolve quality, performance, and supply chain issues
- Create and review 2D drawings in compliance with ANSI Y14.5 standards
- Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) input to ensure efficient and cost-effective production
- Conduct engineering analyses including thermal, mold flow, stress (FEA), and tolerance studies
- Collaborate closely with internal design teams and external suppliers to optimize designs and resolve technical challenges
- Evaluate assembly methods to improve manufacturability and product reliability
- Perform cost-effectiveness analyses to support design optimization and sourcing decisions
- Conduct detailed part tolerance analyses to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability
- Ensure proper electrical and mechanical interface integration across subsystems
- Document design work thoroughly, including reports, test plans, and engineering change documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering field
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and product development
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including parts, sheet metal, assemblies, drawings, and analysis
- Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, material composition, and material properties
- Working knowledge of ANSI standards and established mechanical design best practices
- Working knowledge with Adobe Illustrator
