About the role
- Head of Legal at Atlas establishing the legal framework for a high-growth fintech. Strategic partner to CEO, ensuring compliant and innovative business practices while scaling globally.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CEO and leadership team, translating complex legal and regulatory issues into a clear, actionable strategy that drives innovation.
- Partner closely with product and operations to launch new products quickly and responsibly - balancing innovation with regulatory foresight.
- Lead negotiations for high-value partnerships across dining, travel, payments, and technology.
- Structure creative, unconventional agreements that protect Atlas while preserving flexibility for growth.
- Lead legal strategy for capital markets initiatives - including structuring and closing Atlas’s first warehouse credit facility to expand lending capacity and fuel growth.
- Design a scalable legal and compliance framework covering credit, payments, and data privacy. Manage regulatory relationships with Visa, issuing banks, and lending partners.
- Develop risk policies across credit, delinquency, and collections. Create systems and templates that scale with the business, ensuring legal enables growth rather than slowing it down.
- Oversee governance, board matters, equity administration, IP, and capital-raising support. Act as legal counsel to the board and executive team on strategic and corporate matters.
Requirements
- 7+ years of legal experience, including 4+ years at a top-tier New York law firm (M&A, financial institutions, or capital markets focus).
- Experience advising high-growth fintech, payments, or credit businesses preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. financial regulatory frameworks including payments, lending, money transmission, consumer protection, and data privacy.
- JD from a top-tier law school; admitted to practice in NY (or eligible for in-house counsel registration).
- Exceptional judgment, communication, and business acumen.
